Norfolk launches trash can beautification project

Community

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Calling all artists! The City of Norfolk needs your help to design and paint trash cans. Yes, trash cans.

The goal is to make trash cans more visible in Lafayette Park, to cut down on the amount of litter.

There are 15 cans available to paint. Artists can submit their own designs and slogans now until February 22.

If you are interested in applying, send an email with between two and five JPEG images of your previous work and/or a new design for one of the 55-gallon metal trash cans to katie.white@norfolk.gov. Put “trash cans” in the subject line.

If your design is approved, the city says it will provide a stipend and all paint, brushes and materials.

Selected artists must be available on May 3 to paint the cans.
