HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton University revealed the newest addition to their campus with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday.

Students, alumni, faculty and community members joined Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey on the institution’s 126th Founder’s Day to unveil Legacy Park.

The park is located between the university’s historical landmarks, Memorial Church and Ogden Hall and it faces the campus’ scenic waterfront, according to a press release

Sculpted figures throughout the park, created by Jon Hair, highlight notable figures who have impacted the university, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Mary Jackson and former President Barack Obama.

U.S. Congressman Bobby Scott and Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
