HAMPTON, Va (WAVY) — Sheriff B.J. Roberts sponsored a shopping trip for just over a dozen senior citizens on Tuesday, all of whom were in need of transportation and a little extra attention during the Christmas shopping season.

The seniors were treated to an afternoon of shopping at the Target located in the Peninsula Town Center in Hampton, followed by a complimentary buffet lunch at a local restaurant.

Deputies assisted the senior group by managing walkers, carrying packages and helping with a few tough shopping choices.

Members of  the Hampton Sheriff’s Office have been volunteering their time escorting area seniors with holiday shopping for 18 years now.

The Hampton Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Peninsula Agency on Aging’s Congregate Dining Club program to make this year’s event possible.
