A FUNDRAISER DRAWING AWARENESS TO CHILDHOOD MENTAL ILLNESS
Join WAVY-TV 10 and WVBT FOX43 Saturday, May 11th for the RunWalk for the Kids at Waterside District in Norfolk. All funds raised and donated to the RunWalk benefit CHKD’s Behavioral Health Program.
This year, a 10-year old girl named Kenley is helping draw attention to the cause with her illustration that was selected to be on the front of the 2019 CHKD RunWalk for the Kids t-shirts. Kenley herself has a unique story. She was born premature at 26 weeks and weighed 1.2 pounds. She was immediately transferred to CHKD from Norfolk General Hospital and remained in the NICU for 10 weeks. Kenley was given a 15% chance of survival. With the help of the amazing NICU doctors, nurses, and care team, Kenley defeated the odds and graduated from the NICU as a healthy 4.6 lb. miracle. She has come a long way since her stay at CHKD, and with their continued support, Kenley has been able to overcome many “micro preemie” issues. She graces everyone she meets with her strength and beautiful personality. WAVY-TV 10, WVBT FOX43 and Team Kenley hope you’ll join us to run, walk or donate to CHKD.
WAVY News 10 Sports Director Bruce Rader will kick off the run on race day. WAVY News 10 Anchor Tom Schaad will hand out medals to all participants and WAVY News 10 Reporter Stephanie Harris will report live from the starting line on WAVY News 10 Today Saturday Morning! The King’s Daughters opened the doors of Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in 1961 and continues its support today with fund-raising, volunteering and advocacy. A not-for-profit organization with approximately 1,100 members throughout Hampton Roads, The King’s Daughters raise funds, friends, and awareness for CHKD. In recent years, these funds have been used to purchase a highly-sophisticated pediatric ambulance that brings children from all over the region to CHKD, ventilators for the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, medical cribs for use throughout the hospital and a high-tech therapy pool for use in physical therapy and rehabilitation. The King’s Daughters established The King’s Daughters Milk Bank at CHKD, and this year funds raised will go toward CHKD’s Behavioral Health Program.
