Blog: Heat, Wind, And Some Thunderstorms

The big storm system over the central U.S. has moved up into the Great Lakes. A strong warm front has pushed all the way up into the Northeast states, and a big cold front is moving to the east over the Appalachians. Locally, we'll be in the warm zone for the enitre day.

We already started off with temps in the 60s this morning. So it won't be too big of a jump to reach 80 degrees this afternoon. We do have a lot more clouds than yesterday, but the sun was breaking through the clouds pretty well up through the mid morning. There were already some isolated showers in the region. There will be isolated showers possible up through the mid afternoon.

Winds will run out of the southwest at 10 mph to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. That will be outside of any thunderstorms. Scattered showers and storms will develop by the mid-late afternoon. So when the storms do arrive, they could have some gusts over 35mph. They may even be marginally severe (58 mph or higher). The highest chance for rain and storms will be during the evening.

The cold front will move through a little later in the evening. Winds will change from southwest to northwest. We'll have scattered rain showers until a little after midnight. Then we'll dry out into the morning as the front moves offshore.

This is good news for the St. Patrick's Day parade in Ocean View. Temps will be in the upper 40s to low 50s in the morning. We'll have clearing skies. We'll be partly sunny on Saturday with highs in the upper 50s to near 60.

On Sunday some cooler/colder air will surge into the area. Lows temps will return to the 30s. Highs temps will only be near 50. So it will be a little chilly at the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach, but at least it will be dry. Skies will be partly cloudy through the day. We'll be dry and cool/mild on Monday with highs in the 50s. There may be a stray shower, but it's a low chance. High temps may only be in the upper 40s next Tuesday, but we should warm up later in the week.
