Learning By Accident

My first day I thought i would be so over whelmed. It was so much that i did not know, like i knew absolutely nothing. Other than a few things I had learned in News Production class (the i have to take over), everything else was pretty new to me. I figured that since everyone else were so high speed they would assume i was too. I guessed wrong .

Everything ive learned was so unintentional. Jeron has kind of been my mentor and who I have been shadowing , for the most part. I remember the first thing he showed me was the cameras and how they were moved. For the first week, I thought he not only moved the cameras and corrected the shot but i thought he selected which shots were on the air. That was until I was shown how the magic worked in the production room.

It amazed me how everyone used the same program and there wer symbols for a particular department . Like on the sheet it’ll tell Jeron to position the camera to where they can put a picture over an anchors shoulder(OTS) and tell Reba to use a certain transition to a certain story. Some things done are unspoken and its like a team chemistry type of thing.

aside from production, I was able to see some action with Friday Night Flights. I was able to attend two football games (FOR FREE). I learned that you have to do a lot of moving to catch good footage , and it is essentially up to you as the crew to determine when you should leave one game and attend the other. We did each half of two games being that both games were super close .

So far i have learned a good amount of things in a good amount of time and I hope to soon learn far more in the other departments.
