Over the course of my internship at WAVY, I have experienced a plethora of emotions regarding my journey, and the progress I made so far. I began my internship grateful for the opportunity to gain skills, and apply them to my future career, and hopeful that I would become the best version of myself. As time progressed, I became hesitant that I was not fulfilling others’ expectations, or my own. These emotions quickly ceased when I realized that the journey to success does not happen with ease.
As a news intern, I had idea I would be exposed to every aspect of the newsroom. There are several requirements that aid in the creation of a news package, which is more than what is shown on television. For example, the assignment desk is responsible for gathering information on news tips and deciding if the topics are newsworthy. From the desk, the story is then given to reporters to cover out on the field. The producers are responsible for writing the shows on television.
While at WAVY, I had the opportunity to work the news assignment desk, go out on the field with Kiahnna Patterson, and LV to see how she constructs her stories. What I am most excited about is building my reel, which is what I plan to do with the remainder of my time at WAVY. I am determined to walk in my purpose and achieve success while doing so.
