This is week 6 of being at Wavy and every day I enjoy it more and more. For two weeks I shadowed the production department because I wanted to see how the whole show comes to together and is presented on TV. It was very interesting to see how the cameras work, how the directors put together the show, and how the teleprompter works so the anchors and reporters can read.
I was able to work the prompter during some of the newscasts and was able to do a little bit of camera work as well with the help of Taylor Simmons. It can be a bit nerve racking doing some of the things in production, but once you get used to it, its easy from there. Being able to talk to Tom Schad and Anita Blanton during the newscast by sharing laughing and interesting conversation is something I will never forget.
After spending two weeks in production, I was right back in the newsroom going out with reporters and helping them come up with stories along the way. This week I was able to go out with Tamara to get an insight on how I could come up with stories on my own. She has really helped me out a lot by letting me come up with good sound bits and writing what should go in the newcast as a tease and so on.
Overall, this journey at Wavy is not over yet so stay tuned for more.
