Marielena Balouris

Marielena Balouris joined the WAVY team in August 2016 and is thrilled to be part of the Hampton Roads community.

Marielena was born and raised in Pittsburgh. In fifth grade, her mom predicted that she would get into television news. She didn’t necessarily agree, but, as she’s learned, Mom is always right.

Marielena traveled across the state to attend Penn State University where she earned degrees in broadcast journalism and political science. Her career began at WTAJ-TV, the CBS affiliate in Central Pennsylvania, which covers Altoona, Johnstown, State College and the surrounding areas. At WTAJ, Marielena worked as a multimedia journalist, anchor and producer.

While at Penn State, Marielena was involved in a number of on-campus activities, including The Centre County Report, Lion Ambassadors, Essence of Joy choir and THON.  After college, Marielena spent a summer as a staff member at Ionian Village, a Greek Orthodox summer camp located in Greece.

Marielena spent two years anchoring WAVY’s weekend morning shows.  She now anchors weeknights on WAVY News 10 at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on FOX43.  You can also catch Marielena’s reports nightly on WAVY News 10.

She is always excited to share your stories, so feel free to get in touch!
