Jon Dowding joined the 10 On Your Side team in March 2021 as a Reporter/Multimedia Journalist and is excited to call Hampton Roads home.
Jon was born and raised in Branchburg, New Jersey before traveling to Philadelphia to attend the Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple University.
Graduating Magna Cum Laude, he earned bachelor’s degrees in journalism and Spanish and minored in political science. During his time at Temple, Jon worked as a bilingual reporter/anchor for the student-produced news program Temple Update. He served as an anchor for two NATAS Mid-Atlantic Pillar Award-winning episodes for Best College Newscast. Jon interned for NBC10/Telemundo 62 and The Q Show on Fox 29 in Philadelphia as well as for CBS News in Washington DC. Jon’s love for political journalism started with his experience reporting at the 2016 Democratic National Convention for the website AllDigitocracy.org as a member of the Temple DNC News Bureau. He is also a Next Generation Radio Alum from NPR’s Next Generation Radio Program. Outside of the newsroom, Jon ventured 3,500 miles across the Atlantic for a Study Abroad Program reporting for five months from northern Spain.
He joined WAVY/WVBT from our sister station WSAV-TV in Savannah, Georgia where he worked as a Digital Multimedia Journalist. Jon started the market’s first digital news program in Spanish called WSAV Ahora as well as a weekly, digital political show called ‘All Politics Are Local’. He covered stories surrounding the pandemic, Hurricane Dorian, and NY Governor Andrew Cuomo’s visit to Savannah. Jon also interviewed all four candidates for Georgia’s U.S. Senate and provided extensive coverage on-air and online during the two historic 2020 elections in the Peach State.
If he’s not planning his next trip, you’ll probably find him enjoying the beach, the gym or visiting some great restaurants. Jon’s excited to learn all about what Hampton Roads has to offer. Give him a follow on social media and say hi!
Jon is a member of NABJ, NLGJA and Kappa Tau Alpha.
