Geena Arevalo joined the WAVY-TV 10 News team in October 2018 and is excited to explore her new surroundings here on the East Coast.
She was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and moved to Hampton Roads with her husband, who is a member of the U.S. Navy.
Geena graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock with a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism (Wreck ’em!), and began her career in Midland, TX where she was a reporter and weekend anchor. She earned awards from the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters for her reporting, and she also appeared on CNN for a segment about a local story that gained national attention.
After four years in west Texas, Geena moved to Hawaii and joined the KHON2 News team in Honolulu. During her time in the Aloha State, she reported on stories across the entire island chain. Some of her most memorable stories there include the birth of an endangered monk seal, the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the inbound ballistic missile alert that was mistakenly sent out by the state emergency management agency in January 2018.
Geena is a dog mom, a wannabe foodie, and a huge fan of Bruno Mars. When she’s not working, you’ll likely find her hanging out with her husband and two dogs, eating, or exploring the outdoors.
