NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Newport News citizens can take an extra step towards protecting personal belongings from thieves. The Newport News Police Department’s Auto Theft Unit and Pawn Unit are hosting a series of events to help reduce theft.
Detectives at the events are available to engrave car owners’ vehicle identification number (VIN) information in a concealed location of the vehicle. Citizens can also register up to four electronic devices.
Police say the information will help them track stolen property and catch the thieves who took it.
The events are scheduled to take place on the following Saturdays from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.:
-September 21, 2013 at Police Headquarters, 9710 Jefferson Avenue
-October 26, 2013 at Newport News City Park
-November 30, 2013 at Patrick Henry Mall, 12300 Jefferson Avenue
-December 14, 2013 at the Farmers Market at Downtown at 2804 Jefferson Avenue
