HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Police have identified the person killed in a car accident in Hampton.
According to Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division, the crash happened around 12:44 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Apple Avenue off Kecoughtan Road.
Cpl. Shackelford said two unoccupied cars were parked on the side of Apple Avenue when they were both hit head-on by a white Nissan Maxima. The car went a little farther, hitting a tree.
The driver of the Nissan, 52-year-old Melvin Leon Jones, was taken to the hospital, where he died, according to Cpl. Shackelford.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident. Cpl. Shackelford said it appears neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
