FANCY GAP, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal, multi-vehicle crash that closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 77 in Carroll County.
Authorities say the crash took place Saturday morning near the Virginia-North Carolina border. It was raining and foggy at the time of the crash.
Three tractor-trailers, two passenger vehicles and a motorcycle were involved in the crash that killed one person. Those injured in the crash were transported to three area hospitals.
Officials say there were a series of secondary crashes that occurred in the backup from the first crash, but no fatalities or multi-vehicle crashes.
