RENTON, WA (WAVY) - When he was a fifth round draft pick out of Virginia Tech three years ago, nobody in Seattle had even heard of safety Kam Chancellor from Norfolk.
But Seahawk fans know him now.
And on Monday night, he became a very rich man.
Chancellor, who just turned 25 this month, signed a new contract that will pay him $35 million over the next five years, with $17 million guaranteed.
Signing Chancellor, who graduated from Maury High School, was the Seahawks top priority this off-season. A pro-bowler, Chancellor finished the 2012 season with 75 solo tackles and four passes defended.
