NORFOLK, VA (WAVY) - The Norfolk Tides held 'Hokie Night' for their series finale against Charlotte on Sunday evening. What better way to recognize the occasion than to bring in arguably the most electrifying Hokie in Virginia Tech history. Needless to say, Michael Vick signed more than a few autographs.
Swarms of fans stretched from the concourse behind home plate, where Vick's table was set up, to almost even with the third base bag. Despite the sea of Maroon and Orange waiting to shake hands, say high or get a signature from him, Vick enjoyed being able to spend some down time in his home state.
Up north in Philadelphia, the conversation is always about the Eagles' quarterback battle. Vick is in a three-way race with returning starter Nick Foles and Matt Barkley, whom the eagles drafted out of the University of southern California. First-year Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly says he doesn't plan on naming a starter, possibly until just before the team's season-opener against Washington.
Until then, Vick finds himself in unfamiliar territory heading into his eleventh NFL season. He'll have to start for a starting spot for the first time, at least he thinks, since his days in Blacksburg.
