Virginia Beach, VA (WAVY) - Virginia Beach has it's own version of the Fantastic Four, and they now own a national record. Nate Decruz, Austin Temple, Harrison Pierce and Austin Ryan of Tide Swim just returned from Richmond, where they competed at the State Swimming Championships.
The four turned in a 200-meter relay medley time of one minute and 45.08 seconds. That broke the record held by Ricky Barons and Matt Patton, both Olympians who swam at the end of the same relay eight years ago. "I know this meant a lot to them to set this record before they were Olympians," said DaCruz, "So for us to break this record, it was incedible."
The new mark broke the old one by almost two seconds. DaCruz swam the back stroke, Temple swam the breast stroke, Pierce the butterfly and Ryan swam free-style. They're not settlling just for one record. This same group aims to set a new record next year.
"We are hoping to set the record next year for 17 to 18 (year age group)," said Ryan.
Norfolk Police are investigating the cause of death for male found unconscious on the beach.
