VIRGINIA (WAVY) - There were a couple of upsets in Tuesday's Virginia Democratic primaries.
State Senator Ralph Northam, who represents Norfolk, beat out former Obama Administration Technology Chief, Aneesh Chopra, for Lieutenant Governor.
Mark Herring beat Justin Fairfax for the Democratic nomination for state Attorney General by a small margin.
Locally, Evans Poston beat incumbent Sharon McDonald for the party's nod for Norfolk Commissioner of Revenue. In Portsmouth, current Sheriff Bill Watson will hold onto his nomination.
In other races, Algie Howell beat Rick James for Norfolk's House of Delegates seat.
Poll workers said Tuesday's turnout was light.
