CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say two women were wounded when a shooter opened fire at Christianburg's New River Community College Friday afternoon.
According to State Police, a call for a person with a gun came in at 1:30 p.m. at the New River Valley Mall, which houses the New River Community College satellite campus.
At 1:55 p.m., a call for shots fired came in and officers were on the scene at 2 p.m.
The shooter was taken into custody and was identified as 18-year-old Neil Allan MacInnis, a NRCC student. He has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in a felony. State Police say he completed a Christiansburg law enforcement academy.
One woman was airlifted to a hospital and her condition is unknown. Another woman was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition, according to WSLS.
One of the victims was identified as a part time employee of NRCC. The victims' identities have not been released.
Montgomery County Schools were briefly locked down as a precautionary measure.
