ATKINS, Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a 4-year-old SmythCounty boy who was hit by a train.
Smyth County Sheriff David Bradley says investigators believeJames Lee Hardy was playing near railroad tracks when he was struckby the step on the side of the train's engine.
Bradley says investigators plan to examine video from a cameraon the Norfolk Southern Corp. train to determine what happened.
The accident occurred at about 7 p.m. Thursday near a mobilehome park in Atkins.
Bradley says the boy died at the scene.
