PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A group of citizens held a yard sale Friday to help raise enough money to file a lawsuit to block tolls in Hampton Roads.
Citizens For Accountability In Politics hosted a yard sale, with donations from hundreds of people. The group's goal is to get to court in the next two months.
"We have a lot of people interested but a small group of volunteers actually doing the work and people are getting tired, it's very intense," Terry Danaher said.
Some volunteers stayed up late into the night to help reach the $100,000 goal.
"I should've made another rum cake," Terry Danaher said.
Danaher and her husband offered their land on the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and City Park Avenue to hold the sale. Some even stopped by the sale not knowing what they money would be going toward.
"I though you just vote on it whether you want that or not," one shopper told WAVY.com
Others knew exactly where their money was going. "I'd rather spend at the garage sale then pay the tolls," one shopper laughed.
The sale will continue Saturday with a rally at noon.
