COROLLA, N.C. (WAVY) - Two people visiting the Outer Banks of North Carolina were hit and killed by a car Monday.
Rob Glover with Currituck County Fire-EMS confirmed the accident happened on Route 12 North near the water treatment plant in Corolla around 11:33 a.m..
The victims are Wesley and Elizabeth Martin of Lancaster, Pa., according to Sgt. Wilson with N.C. Highway Patrol. Both were in their 50's and vacationing in the Outer Banks.
A Honda CRV driven by Tory Bowman, 50, of Ashburn, Va., ran off the right shoulder and hit the pedestrians. Bowman told the trooper he fell asleep.
Bowman is charged with careless and reckless driving and two counts misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. He was released on a $2,000 secure bond.
