ELIZABETH CITY, Va. (WAVY) - North Carolina Coast Guard watchstanders air-lifted a heart attack victim aboard a cruise ship to a Norfolk hospital Monday evening.
Coast Guard 5th District watchstanders were contacted by the Norwegian Breakaway cruise ship around 5 p.m. about a 59-year-old woman who needed help after suffering a heart attack.
The Coast guard asked the ship's crew to alter its course toward Elizabeth City, bringing it 350 miles east of Cape Hatteras by the time helicopters from the Coast Guard Air Station in Elizabeth City reached the ship.
The woman and a ship's nurse were hoisted into the helicopter sometime after 7 p.m. and medevaced to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
The Coast Guard did not have a status on the condition of the woman.
Norfolk Police are investigating an assault on a man Thursday night.
