NAGS HEAD, N.C. (WAVY) - Researchers with the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education aren't sure what killed a whale that washed up in Nags Head on Feb. 4.
The whale was found about a half a mile north of Jeanette's Pier in Nags Head. Crews worked with the town to get heavy equipment to aid in the removal of the 27-foot female whale.
On Monday, the stranding team performed a necropsy, but the whale's cause of death has not yet been determined.
However, the center believes she died before washing up on the beach.
