JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A deputy chief at the North Topsail Beach Fire Department has been charged with embezzling more than $60,000.
The Daily News of Jacksonville reports (http://bit.ly/YA89eU ) that 48-year-old George Frederick Moore, III, was charged Thursday by the state Department of Insurance Criminal Investigation unit with four counts of embezzlement.
Warrants state Moore took $61,000 belonging to the department and the Local Firefighters Relief Fund between 2009 and last year.
Moore served as treasurer and trustee of the relief fund. He is free on $40,000 bond. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
