NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) is now recertified in the first phase of the Precision Aircraft Landing System (PALS). The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier received the certification earlier this month on July 17.
For the first phase of certification, the carrier is pier-side as aircraft fly overhead. While the aircraft does not actually land on the carrier, the goal is to ensure the radar can pick up and lock onto an aircraft while the ship is docked.
The Navy said USS Theodore Roosevelt is currently completing Refueling and Complex Overhaul at Huntington Ingalls Industries - Newport News Shipbuilding in preparation to rejoin the fleet.
