NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The USS Porter, which had collided with a tanker in August near the Strait of Hormuz came back to Norfolk this weekend.
The Navy relieved Commander Martin Arriola of command of the ship.
The Enterprise Strike Group's commander, Ted Carter, told WAVY.com mistakes were made during the accident.
"Going through the Strait of Hormuz is not a business as usual place to operate," Carter said. "It's very tight. It's only some 22-miles at it's most narrowest point. [There was a lot] of traffic and we operated in and out of there at night routinely."
The Navy is still investigating the collission.
