NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Navy announced Thursday that the USS Cole (DDG 67) willleave Monday from Naval Station Norfolk on a seven-month deploymentto the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf area of operations.
The deployment was originally scheduled for Friday, butofficials moved the date back because of the forecast for inclementweather.
According to the Navy, the Arleigh Burke-class, guided missiledestroyer will conduct Maritime Security Operations in the region,working with international maritime forces to ensure security andawareness in the maritime domain.
The 505-foot long ship has a crew of about 270 Sailors and iscommanded by Cmdr. Edward Devinney.
The Cole returned from an eight-week deployment on Nov. 19 oflast year.
