NORFOLk, Va. (WAVY) - Dozens of families came to Naval Station Norfolk Tuesday to welcome home sailors onboard the USS Helena.
The 360-foot Los Angeles fast-attack submarine, under the command of Cmdr. Paul L. Dinuum, returned from the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility. On its return, USS Helena and its crew of 16 officers and 134 enlisted Sailors conducted a visit in Cape Canaveral, Fla.
USS Helena is the 38th Los Angeles-class attack submarine and was commissioned July 11, 1987.
It steamed more than 8,600 nautical miles on its last deployment.
