NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Norfolk is preparing to take ownership of the retired WorldWar-II era battleship USS Wisconsin.
Mayor Paul Fraim's office says the transfer of ownership is setfor 10 a.m. Friday. The ceremony comes on the 66th anniversary ofthe Wisconsin's commissioning at the Philadelphia NavalShipyard.
The Navy agreed in December to give the Wisconsin to Norfolkafter years of negotiations and environmental reviews. Cityofficials plan to maintain the battleship and operate it as atourist attraction.
The city plans to begin offering guided tours of interiorsections this summer.
