PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A man was rescued via medevac by Coast Guard near Wrightsville Beach, N.C., April 10, but later died in a hospital.
The 54-year-old man was rescued from a 20-foot boat approximately 150 yards away from Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina, according to a Coast Guard press release.
Crews responded to the boat after the man's girlfriend called New Hanover 911 and asked for help.
Coast Guard officials say a 25-foot response boat and a crew was on the scene within minutes and CPR was administered.
The man was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Camden County Sheriff Tony Perry said that during the last two weeks, incidents of breaking and entering and home or vehicle larceny have increased in two areas of the county.
