NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Just in time for the Fourth of July, families of more than 5,000 sailors will have even more to celebrate. The sailors are serving in the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group (IKECSG), and they will be returning to their homeports in Norfolk and Mayport, Fla. on July 3.
USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, Carrier Air Wing 7, and USS Hue City are returning to their homeports after five months of operations in the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility.
In March, IKECSG ships USS Jason Dunham, USS Farragut, and USS Winston S. Churchill came home after completing operations in the 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
During its deployment, IKECSG worked to ensure maritime security, theater security cooperation efforts, and conducted missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
