Police spokesperson Harold Eley tells WAVY.com the driver,33-year-old Robert Fields of Newport News, was killed after he lostcontrol of his car and hit a utility pole at the J. Clyde MorrisBlvd. exit (Exit 258B) of I-64 W.
His passenger, 35-year-old Jerry Vineyard of Hampton, wastransported to a nearby hospital with non-life threateninginjuries, according to Eley.
Both the exit ramp and one lane of J. Clyde Morris Blvd. remainclosed.
