MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WAVY) - Mo Money Taxes CEO Markey Granberry says he is a victim too.
After numerous promises were not met and deadlines missed, 10 On Your Side's Anne McNamara traveled to the Mo Money headquarters in Memphis, Tenn. to speak to Granberry face-to-face.
Granberry agreed to an interview , during which he blamed processing and banking errors for the problems.
"If you look at those checks, Mo Money Taxes is not on those checks at all," Granberry said.
10 On Your Side's Anne McNamara continued to press Granberry in order to clarify his statement.
"But those refunds were deposited for Mo Money's purposes," Anne said.
Granberry answered, "But Miss Anne, if you look on those checks, Mo Money Taxes is not on those checks at all."
"So you're saying it's the fault of whoever's name is on those checks?," Anne continued.
"I am saying if you look at the checks, Mo Money Taxes is not on those checks at all," Granberry said.
10 On Your Side has been investigating Mo Money for weeks. Customers have not received their tax returns as promised and many who have received checks say they cannot cash them.
So where is the money? Granberry says some checks should arrive today. He promised another batch would be mailed out Friday.
"I love these people," Granberry said. "I've been servicing them for 17 years . I love these people. If you look at me, I'm them. I feel the pain."
Granberry refused to comment on his company's relationship with Value Bank of Texas, despite reports the two have separated.
Granberry also would not comment on why routing numbers and account numbers were incorrect on checks already received by Norfolk customers.
Granberry says he apologizes to Norfolk customers for the delay. He said all customers are welcome to call the corporate office about their refund at 901-348-2937.
When asked if he is worried about Mo Money Taxes getting shut down, Granberry said, "Not exactly, because people that are involved in the tax business and all of that, everyone that's involved in the tax business, and knows the tax business, knows Mo Money Taxes, and knows Markey Granberry, and knows that I haven't done anything or my company hasn't done anything, or my company is not at total fault."
