VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia Beach woman's efforts to cheer up her husband ended up making them both extremely happy.
Rashonda Kelly told Virginia Lottery officials she and her husband were driving home after he lost a basketball game and she suggested they stop and buy a lottery ticket.
They stopped at the 7-Eleven at 5444 Virginia Beach Blvd. in Virginia Beach and bought a Black Gold scratcher. The ticket turned out to be a $150,000 winner.
"I thought I'd won $150," Kelly told Lottery officials. "But as I kept scratching, I saw all those zeros."
Kelly recently retired from the U.S. Navy and her husband is active duty. They plan on using their winnings to pay bills and save for retirement.
