VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Two events happening in Virginia Beach Saturday are causing traffic problems on the city's county roads, according to police.
According to police, there is a five mile back up on West Neck Road due to the Dirty Girl 5K mud run and a Polo match that is taking place nearby.
Police said once onsite parking at both events filled up and both West Neck Road and Indian River Road were closed.
Vehicles were stuck in traffic on West Neck Road from Princess Anne Road past the courthouse.
Police said drivers attempted to turn around and there were reports of vehicles traveling in the wrong direction, which caused further delays. Also, pedestrians were walking in the roadway to get their destinations.
Police say dispatchers were overwhelmed by 911 and 311 calls in reference to the backups.
Norfolk Police are investigating the cause of death for male found unconscious on the beach.
Several local families could be out on the streets by the new year, if things don't improve at a Chesapeake shelter.
