VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A week-long event in Virginia Beach is hoping to get the public to "Pack the Pantry" at the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.
Haynes Furniture and WAVY TV 10 are partnering with the foodbank to bring attention to September as Hunger Action Month -- a time when foodbanks across the country encourage the public to take action in their communities and help end hunger in America.
In that effort, Haynes Furniture at 5324 Virginia Beach Boulevard is serving as the drop-off location for non-perishable food donations for the foodbank. Those interested can stop by the store during normal business hours now through the end of the month.
“We are proud to support "Pack the Pantry" and hope to make a difference fighting hunger in our community,” said E.J. Strelitz, president of Haynes.
Haynes is open between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Those who donate food next Friday between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. will get free frozen yogurt from Skinny Dip.
