VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia Beach church honored breast cancer awareness month by delivering thousands of cupcakes across Hampton Roads Wednesday.
Timna Jones with Wave Church said female members of the church baked close to 7,000 pink-iced cupcakes and hand delivered them to cancer specialist centers, cancer wards, mammography clinics, OBGYN offices and oncology offices in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton and Newport News.
Doctors and patients were also surprised with hand-written notes from the women.
"Pastor Sharon Kelly along with the women of Wave Church consider it an honor to stand by their sisters facing breast cancer," said Jones. "This is just our small part in letting these courageous women know that Wave Church is thinking of them and praying for them."
The church honored cancer patients in 2012 by delivering hundreds of care packages to women undergoing chemotherapy in Virginia Beach and Norfolk.
A routine traffic stop in Chesapeake resulted in a three-city pursuit Friday morning.
Wet weather is expected to move into the area over the weekend, forcing some areas to cancel or change their holiday events.
Four vehicles were involved in a crash on Route 17 in Gloucester Friday morning.
