VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A suspicious package was reported at a Virginia Beach post office Wednesday, but was just an item forgotten by a patron.
Amy Valdez with the Virginia Beach Fire Department told WAVY.com crews were called to the scene at the post office at 2109 Thoroughgood Road Wednesday. The call was reported at 11:22 a.m.
According to Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department, the building was evacuated and the bomb unit was responding to the scene. A black bag was found on the counter.
Only moments later, Moyers said the scene was cleared. Police say a man forgot his bag at the post office and returned to retrieve it.
The post office is back to business.
This is the second suspicious package incident in Hampton Roads Wednesday. A black duffel bag was reported in Norfolk that was later found to contain notebooks and papers.
Norfolk Police are investigating the cause of death for male found unconscious on the beach.
