VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Hundreds of runners hit paths around Mount Trashmore Sunday morning to honor a police detective killed in the line of duty. The End of Watch Foundation sponsored the 5K Run For Hope to raise money for the family of Detective Michael Phillips and to honor the memory of the other 13 Virginia Beach Police Officers and Sheriff's Deputies that have died in the line of duty.
The Virginia Beach officer was killed in August of 2008 during an undercover drug operation at the Green Run Shopping Center.
For runners, it was a chance to give back to the family which has given so much.
