VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A man critically injured Wednesday afternoon when propane exploded in a van has died.
When firefighters arrived at the scene in the 3200 block of Colechester Road Wednesday afternoon, they found the van engulfed in flames and a severely burned patient.
The victim, identified as Matthew S. Olive, 36, was transported to a local burn center where Tim Riley with the Virginia Beach Fire Department said he passed away just after 10:30 p.m.
Investigators determined there were two propane tanks in the back of the van. Riley said it is believed at this time that a cigarette ignited the propane. The investigation continues.
