VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Once again, the sidewalks at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront are full of people. Businesses are back open and there's renewed optimism that this summer will be better than the last.
"This is to kick off the summer, and we're ready for it," said Kevin Bryan from Atlantic Fun Park. "You got three weekends of the summer: Memorial Day, fourth of July and Labor Day. This is one of the better ones."
Bryan and his crew are hoping for a good couple months. Warm weather and lots of people are the tickets to a profitable summer.
"I think this should be a good year," Bryan added. "Our expectations are really high."
Inside Flashback Old Time Photos, employees are hoping a busy season will develop quickly.
"We're always super excited this time of year," said manager Greg Stein. "I'm expecting a much busier summer than the past couple years, and I think we are going to have a very solid year this year."
As businesses prepare for customers, Virginia Beach Police are prepared to keep them safe. There are extra officers stationed on the streets.
"We have officers on bikes, motorcycles, walking and horseback," said Virginia Beach Police Sgt. Adam Bernstein.
