VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A man facing DUI charges after a deadly crash in Virginia Beach was in court Wednesday.
Virginia Beach Police said Jason Sergeant, 40, was in Virginia Beach General District court for a bond hearing Wednesday morning and was denied bond.
Sergeant had a child in his pickup truck when he drove into oncoming traffic in the 2200 block of Princess Anne Road on June 8 around 5 p.m.
Police said that Sergeant in his 2003 Toyota pickup truck was traveling southbound, left the road and then over-corrected, crossing into oncoming northbound traffic. Sergeant struck a 200 Ford Taurus, causing the Taurus to rotate and skid into the intersection of Princess Anne Rd. and Three Oaks Drive. Seconds after the initial crash, a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle crashed into Sergeant's Toyota.
John William Hutchinson, 84, of Virginia Beach was killed in the multi-vehicle accident. He was the driver of the Taurus.
The passenger of the Taurus and the driver of the Volkwagen went to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Sergent and the child in his truck were not injured.
Sergent is charged with DUI-child present, involuntary manslaughter, and maiming.
