VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A man was arrested Saturday after police say he caused a car crash involving a police vehicle.
Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department said Jovan Chesmon Smith, 32 of Virginia Beach was arrested following a car crash around 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of Euclid Road and South Independence Boulevard.
Smith's vehicle was traveling northbound on Independence Boulevard, turning left onto Euclid Road when he accelerated and struck a vehicle in the next lane, Moyers said. Smith then overcorrected his vehicle and crossed over the median, crashing into a police vehicle carrying an officer and a police chaplain.
Smith's vehicle continued moving until it flipped onto its side on the sidewalk next to a Best Buy store.
No one involved in the crash were injured.
Smith was arrested for DUI second offense, following to close, no seatbelt, unauthorized us of inspection sticker and no insurance. He is being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
