VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Cleanup work around Pleasure House Point began July 18 and will last through the beginning of August.
Chona O'Galvin with the City of Virginia Beach says the recently preserved property will be the site of major trash pickup and cleanup as the City's Department of Parks and Recreation improves public access to the 118-acre area.
School principals volunteered to clean up parts of the area July 18.
"We've just kicked it up a notch because now, we're doing something abstract, we're not just saving box tops or ink cartridges," Glenwood Elementary School principal Susan Stuhlman said. "Now we're looking at the Bay which is our own backyard and we're looking at how we can take care of it."
The area is located just west of the Lesner Bridge and south of the Chesapeake Bay.
