VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach Police have charged a woman in connection to a hit-and-run at a 7-Eleven store early Wednesday morning.
Tonya Borman with the Virginia Beach Police Department said the crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. at the 7-Eleven in the 1800 block of Kempsville Road. Officers were told the suspect fled the area in the vehicle.
A store manager told WAVY News' Liz Palka on scene a female employee suffered minor injuries. An official at 7-Eleven's corporate office said the employee was transported to a hospital and released.
An officer spotted the suspect vehicle in the 5800 block of Baynebridge Drive. The suspect, identified as Christina Soumala Kanniainen, 41, was taken into custody.
Kanniainen has been charged with felony hit and run, second offense DUI and DUI – refusal. She is being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center where she declined an interview request.
A customer, Tariq Graham, told WAVY.com, "they told me they were closed, and I was like 'I thought they were doing construction'."
Graham saw a repair crew as he walked up to the 7-Eleven this afternoon, then later learned what happened.
"She doesn't need to be driving," he said.
Norfolk Police are investigating the cause of death for male found unconscious on the beach.
The Hampton Police Division needs help identifying the suspect in a motel robbery early Monday morning.
