SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A man who police said shot two people in a dispute over money Sunday morning has been charged with six felonies.
Suffolk Police spokeswoman Debbie George said officers responded to the 400 block of Ben St. around 1 a.m. for a report of shots fired. On scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Medics took him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital via Nightingale Air Ambulance. Doctors list him in serious condition.
A second shooting victim arrived at Police Headquarters suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. Medics took him to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, police said Jimmie L. Belcher, 49, of the 200 block of Duke St., approached officers and said he fired several shots when a group of men tried to jump him.
Police charged Belcher with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and two counts of shoot, cut, stab or wound. He is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
