SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A 17-year-old is facing multiple felony charges after police say he stole a firearm and shot into a home and at police early Monday morning.
According to Debbie George with Suffolk Police, three separate incidents in Suffolk between late Sunday night and early Monday morning are possibly connected to one teenager.
Late Sunday, Police received multiple calls about shots fired along the railroad track between the Saratoga and Lakeside areas. While officers were investigating those claims, police received a call that a 17-year-old male had vandalized his grandfather's home and stolen a handgun and ammunition. Then, a another call came in, indicating the boy shot into a residence in the 1400 block of Holland Road.
When officers began searching the area around Holland Road, they found the suspect on top of a building. He then fired a single shot at police, and an officer fired one round back at the boy before the SWAT team and a negotiator were activated.
George said the teen surrendered to police around 2:15 a.m. Monday.
He has been charged with grand larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a juvenile, reckless handling of a firearm, felony vandalism, use of a firearm committing a felony, nine counts of maliciously discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling, and attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer.
The boy is being held at the Tidewater Detention Home in Chesapeake.
Suffolk Police did not initially confirm the teen's shooting in the 1400 block of Holland Road was the same incident as a shooting that damaged a 74-year-old widow's home on Holland Road Sunday night. Police have now said they are the same incident.
