SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - One person was killed, and two others were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Suffolk Tuesday afternoon.
According to Suffolk Police, a driver ran off the road on westbound Route 460/Pruden Boulevard near the Suffolk/Isle of Wight County line just after 12:30 p.m. The SUV hit a work truck owned by Lewis Tree Service, Inc. parked off the road and rolled several times.
When emergency crews arrived at the scene, the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead. He has been identified as Leonard Benjamin Johnston, Jr., 52, of Windsor. Officials say Johnston was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the truck was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital while the passenger was transported to the same hospital by ambulance and was later released. The driver's injuries are not life-threatening.
All lanes of Route 460 were closed in both directions for about an hour after the accident. Only one westbound lane closed, according to police.
Norfolk Police are investigating the cause of death for male found unconscious on the beach.
