PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY - Portsmouth police are investigating the death of woman, whose body was found in the road on Wilcox Avenue Sunday morning. Police are calling her death a homicide.
Police and EMS were called to the 1100 block of Wilcox Avenue at around 5:22 a.m. Sunday for a report of a person laying in the roadway. When police and medical crews arrived on the scene they found the body of a woman in her 20s in the road that had suffered apparent trauma, according to police spokesman Scott Burke.
She was pronounced dead at the scene
Police say they're investigating this case as a homicide due to the apparent trauma to the victim's body said Burke. The victim has not been identified by police, but is described as a black female in her mid 20s.
Investigators tell WAVY.com that an official cause of death will not be available until the medical examiner can perform an autopsy.
